The three backgrounds, and who they suit

Every session here runs on white, light grey, or dark grey (custom branded backdrops exist for events). White is the classic corporate look and cuts cleanly onto any page. Light grey has become the modern default: soft, neutral, flattering on every skin tone and outfit. Dark grey is the editorial one, and the current favorite for leadership pages that want a little gravity. There is no wrong pick, only a wrong mix; choose one per team.

Modern, classic, or creative

The difference is mostly direction. Classic is squared-up and formal. Modern angles the shoulders, loosens the expression, and crops tighter. Creative brings environment or dramatic light into it, which suits founders and speakers more than a 400-person org chart. If you are unsure, modern-on-grey is the answer that ages best. What to actually wear for any of these is covered in the preparation guide.

What consistency looks like at scale

The examples above include frames from office headshot days and conference station runs, and that is the point: 140 people in one day, or 524 across a two-day conference station, all inside one visual system. When every headshot shares the frame, the team page does the branding work by itself. How that works logistically is on the office headshots page and the headshot station page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a good corporate headshot look like?

Sharp eyes, honest expression, clean separation from the background, and clothing that does not fight the backdrop. The subject looks like themselves on a good day, not a stranger in a suit.

Which background is best for corporate headshots?

White reads clean and corporate and drops onto any website. Light grey is the modern default and the most forgiving. Dark grey reads premium and editorial. For teams, pick one and stay with it; consistency is what makes a team page look deliberate.

Can corporate headshots look modern instead of stiff?

That is direction, not styling. Off-square shoulders, natural expressions caught between instructions, and honest light get you a modern headshot without a single fashion decision. The stiff look comes from posing people straight-on and telling them to smile.

Should the whole team use the same headshot style?

Same backdrop, same lighting, same crop, yes. Same outfit, no. A consistent frame with real people in it beats a cloned catalog every time, and it is exactly what an on-site headshot day is built to produce.
