Conference photography for the research corridor

Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines is not a Gaslamp awards hotel. Most of the calendar here is biotech, medtech, academic, and corporate science programs that need a conference photographer who can read a poster board, a data slide, and a keynote without treating the day like a party. I cover Grand Ballroom general sessions, concurrent breakouts, poster or sponsor rows that behave like scaled trade-show floor work, and outdoor receptions on the grounds when the agenda allows.

Deliverables are the ones research marketing actually uses: speaker and panel frames, attendance proof, legible poster and booth coverage, and headshots people will put on a faculty page or investor deck. Same-day selects when a funding or product announcement needs a frame before the closing session. Full gallery in 24 to 48 hours with a commercial license. Examples live in the corporate events gallery.

How much does conference photography cost at Torrey Pines?

Same published San Diego event rates as downtown: $1,195 half day, $1,980 full day, commercial license included. A staffed headshot station is $2,450 / $3,950 at 30+ people per hour. No La Jolla travel premium inside San Diego County.

Grand Ballroom scale and why the address matters

The hotel is at 10950 N Torrey Pines Road in La Jolla, next to Torrey Pines Golf Course and above the reserve, with 65,190 square feet across 22 rooms and a 12,035-square-foot Grand Ballroom (about 1,370 theater). UCSD, Scripps, and the Salk Institute sit minutes up the road. That is why so many visiting scientists never see downtown San Diego on a three-day program.

When a life-science brand also runs a downtown expo day, I can pair Torrey Pines with the San Diego Convention Center or bayfront hotels on a planned multi-day quote. Inventory across the county is compared on the San Diego conference venues page, including Gaylord Pacific and InterContinental San Diego.

Headshots and Live Delivery for scientific agendas

Research meetings burn through headshots. A walk-up station near registration keeps throughput at 30+ per hour so attendees are not choosing between a session and a portrait. Live Delivery supports mid-program announcements on a typical ~60-minute delay when communications needs frames while the agenda is still running. Both sit on the same invoice as coverage.

Live Delivery

Fully Edited Photos in Real Time

Most photographers deliver in weeks to months. Live Delivery keeps your social team posting during the program. Photos stream from camera to editor in near real time, get fully edited, then land in a shared gallery on a typical 45-60-minute delay.

You still get the full product: finished, full-resolution photography, a live editor on the stream, wireless transfer as I shoot, and a gallery built for teams posting while sessions, awards, and networking are still on the clock. This speed of delivery is unique to Encore. No other photographer in the San Diego market offers this level of service.

Why Encore

22 Years of Event Photography Experience

I'm Chris Terry, and for 22 years I've photographed conferences, galas, and corporate events for brands of every size. I know what you actually need out of the day: the speaker at the moment the room leans in, the handshake that means something, the unguarded laugh between sessions that a posed shot never catches.

I'm based in San Diego, a straight run up the 5 from Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines. On site I keep a light footprint: no rearranging your run-of-show around my camera, no flash in anyone's face mid-conversation. From 40-person board dinners to keynotes with thousands in the seats, the approach holds. 1,157 events later, 98% of my clients book me again.

shooting events. We have seen some things, and most of it has not fazed us for a second

We are professional, clean and recently showered

We also dress like we were invited rather than subpoenaed. Three of those should go without saying. You have hired photographers before, so we say them out loud.

We are easy to work with

Last minute changes and timeline shifts are normal at a conference this size. A general session runs long, a breakout swaps rooms, someone decides over lunch that the leadership group photo should happen today. None of that is a problem. We roll with it.

Our pricing is fair and straightforward

No gimmicks, no random fees, no line item that shows up after the fact. The number in the quote is the number on the invoice unless you ask us to add something, and if you do, you see that price before we shoot it.

That second number is not theoretical. In August alone we are flying out to cover events in Oakland, California, Columbus, Ohio, and Tampa, Florida.

Local San Diego conference photographer for La Jolla programs

I work on-site throughout San Diego County (business address on 24th Street; no client studio). Torrey Pines is a normal local drive, not a fly-in. I carry $2M liability and send a COI naming the hotel before load-in. Multi-day scientific meetings get one shot list structure and one gallery delivery plan so your comms team is not managing three vendors for one campus week.

Live Delivery

Per event day

$650

Live Delivery allows your social team to post professionally edited photos in near real time. A photo feed is uploaded directly from our cameras to the editor. He color-corrects and does some final retouching, then uploads the images to a live gallery your team has access to. This takes your event social media to the next level.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you photograph biotech and research conferences at Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines?

Yes. Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines sits in my regular rotation for life-science, medtech, and academic-adjacent programs: Grand Ballroom general sessions, poster halls, sponsor rows, outdoor receptions, and staffed headshot stations for faculty and investor updates.

How much does a conference photographer cost at Torrey Pines?

Published rates: $1,195 half day (up to 4 hours) and $1,980 full day (up to 8 hours), commercial license included. A staffed headshot station is $2,450 half day or $3,950 full day at 30+ people per hour. Multi-day scientific meetings get one custom quote. Line items are on the pricing page.

How much meeting space does Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines have?

65,190 square feet of meeting and event space across 22 rooms. The Grand Ballroom is the largest at 12,035 square feet, with theater capacity around 1,370. Outdoor event space on the grounds sits on top of that indoor inventory.

Why do so many research programs book this hotel instead of downtown?

The address. The hotel sits in the north coastal research corridor near UCSD, Scripps, and the Salk Institute, so visiting scientists stay up the road instead of shuttling from downtown. Poster boards and data slides need legible frames; I shoot for that before I shoot for atmosphere.

Is there a travel fee for La Jolla?

No. La Jolla is still San Diego County, so published rates apply with no travel line. It is a straight run up the 5 from my San Diego base.

Can you add Live Delivery or a headshot station to a Torrey Pines conference?

Both. Research-corridor programs use them differently than downtown brand nights: Live Delivery supports mid-agenda funding or product announcements on a typical ~60-minute delay, and headshot stations fill fast when half the room needs an updated faculty or LinkedIn frame before they fly out.

What vendor paperwork does the hotel require?

A certificate of insurance naming the hotel before load-in is standard. I carry $2M liability and send the COI ahead of your date so it is one forwarded email on your side.
